What is generative engine optimization, and does WaveWise do it?

Generative engine optimization, or GEO, and its near-twin answer engine optimization, or AEO, are the names the industry settled on for one shift: shoppers now ask an assistant what to buy, and most of what the assistant says about your product is assembled from material you neither control nor ever see.

WaveWise starts from that same shift and stops somewhere else. The unit of work here is not more published output. It is one real buying answer read closely, one stated reason it went elsewhere, one reversible change you approve and ship, and a separate check on whether anything was seen at all. Same problem the term points at, a different method, and a narrower statement about what any of it proves.

What the term covers

Generative engine optimization and answer engine optimization are two names for one thing: a buyer who used to open ten tabs now asks an assistant and reads one answer. The same shift gets sold as LLM visibility, as AI search visibility, and as brand monitoring inside assistants. Under every label sits the same question, which is what is being said about your product somewhere you cannot look.

It is not the old problem renamed. A results page orders documents and at least shows you where you stand in the list. An assistant makes a choice, gives a reason for the choice, and shows you nothing.

Where most of the category stops

The common answer is volume: publish more pages, restate the same facts in more places, and hope enough of it gets read. The common measurement is a count of mentions, which can tell you something moved without telling you why it moved, or whether the reason had anything to do with you.

Both treat a decision problem as a volume problem. As a first move that is not wrong, and it is where a lot of this category stops.

Where this works differently

  • The unit of observation is one real buying answer, read whole: what was named, for what reason, and which material that reason leaned on.
  • The unit of action is one reversible change, written out before anything moves, approved by you and shipped by you.
  • Shipped and seen stay two separate questions, and what the evidence is allowed to carry is stated before any result is.

So the plain answer to whether this is GEO: it goes after the problem that word points at, and it refuses the part of the practice that treats output as the goal. The whole loop, step by step.

What this answer does not claim

  • This page defines a term other people use. It does not claim WaveWise has worked out how any assistant decides what to name.
  • Describing how the rest of the category works is a description, not a comparison of results. Nothing here says one method outperforms another.
